My mama began giving me lifelong lessons on to cook when I was 10 years old. I would watch her prepare meals, ask her questions and beg her to let me stir the pot. Finally, she just had me start cooking.
My mother very rarely used a recipe. She didn’t use measuring cups or teaspoons. She just cooked — mostly Filipino dishes (her native cusine). My mother learned to cook Filipino dishes the way she taught me – by watching and cooking. I think these are the best dishes that I probably can put to paper and pass along as a tribute to my late mother – and the love she passed along through the meals she prepared for us.
Here are her recipes — and a few of my own. Enjoy!
